What is an indoor FPV drone tour?
By Colin Hornbaker, Anthem Drone Tours.
An indoor FPV drone tour is a filmed journey through a building, captured with a drone piloted using a live camera view. FPV stands for first-person view. The finished video lets viewers follow a route through rooms, corridors, and shared spaces, seeing how those areas connect. For a property, facility, or venue, that movement can explain something a set of photographs may leave unclear: what it feels like to move through the space.
How does an indoor drone tour work?
The production starts with a route. Which entrance should viewers see first? What areas need attention? Where should the sequence end? The filming plan connects those points in an order that makes sense to the audience.
The pilot uses a live video feed to guide the drone through the planned route. Indoor filming often uses compact aircraft with guarded propellers, selected for the space. Access, lighting, clearances, people, and active operations all affect the plan.
The recorded footage is then edited and finished. A tour may feel like one continuous journey, but it does not have to be a single unedited take. Music, sound, titles, and exterior shots can be included when they serve the film.
What kinds of spaces suit an FPV tour?
Self-storage facilities can show the relationship between reception, loading areas, and storage corridors. Offices and multifamily properties can connect entrances, shared spaces, and amenities. Sports venues and hospitality spaces can show scale and the visitor experience.
Manufacturing facilities and warehouses may also suit a planned tour. Filming should be coordinated around the site’s equipment, staff, and operating requirements.
FPV drone tour, walkthrough video, or 3D virtual tour?
A drone tour follows a filmed route with a sense of movement through the building. A ground-based walkthrough uses a camera carried or supported at ground level and can be a better fit for close details, interviews, or places with limited flying room.
A 3D virtual tour usually lets the viewer choose where to look or navigate between viewpoints. An FPV film is a linear video: the viewer watches the route chosen during production, rather than navigating the space themselves. These formats serve different needs and can complement one another.
Can indoor footage connect to exterior aerials?
Yes, when the location and filming plan allow it. An exterior view can establish the property before the film moves inside. The connection may be filmed as a continuous move or created in the edit.
What should you prepare before filming?
Start with the areas you want viewers to understand and the intended use of the video. Share a floor plan or reference photos if available, identify access restrictions, and agree on a filming window with the people who manage the site.
Before the shoot, tidy the route, arrange access to doors and rooms, and remove confidential material from view. Coordinate any people appearing in the film. The production team should review the route on site and adapt it to the conditions.
How much does an indoor FPV drone tour cost?
Location, travel, route complexity, filming time, editing, and the number of final versions all affect a quote. Share your location, the areas to cover, your deadline, and where the video will appear to help define the project.
